BuyHappyThings.com is a community built around a shared passion for model trains. All members — buyers and sellers alike — are expected to treat one another with respect. This policy covers two closely related areas: harassment and discrimination. Both undermine the trust that makes our marketplace work, and neither will be tolerated.

Part 1 — Harassment

What Counts as Harassment

Harassment is any unwanted behavior directed at another member that a reasonable person would find threatening, intimidating, or distressing. Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Sending threatening, abusive, or intimidating messages through our messaging system.
• Continuing to contact a member after they have asked you to stop, including contact initiated on another platform or in person ("stalking").
• Sharing another person's private information (home address, phone number, workplace, personal photos) for the purpose of intimidation or harassment ("doxxing").
• Sharing intimate images or videos of another person without their consent (nonconsensual intimate imagery / NCII).
• Sexual solicitation, unwanted sexual comments, or making unwanted romantic advances toward another member.
• Threatening to expose a member's personal information, negative information, or private communications unless a demand is met (blackmail or extortion).
• Leaving retaliatory, malicious, or false reviews intended to harm a seller's reputation rather than to accurately describe a transaction.
• Coordinating with others to report a member's account or listings without legitimate cause ("dogpiling").
• Using our platform to pursue a personal dispute that originated outside of BuyHappyThings.com.

Prohibited Conduct for Sellers

Sellers may not:

• Threaten, demean, or intimidate buyers who leave honest negative reviews.
• Use the messaging system to pressure a buyer into changing or removing a review.
• Retaliate against buyers by misrepresenting shipments or delaying orders.

Prohibited Conduct for Buyers

Buyers may not:

• Threaten negative reviews as leverage to extract discounts or free items from sellers.
• Open fraudulent cases or disputes as a form of harassment.
• Contact sellers outside of transactional or item-related purposes in an unwanted or persistent manner.

Part 2 — Discrimination and Hateful Content

Our Commitment to an Inclusive Marketplace

BuyHappyThings.com is committed to maintaining a marketplace where everyone is welcome. Discrimination — whether in listings, shop policies, seller profiles, or messages — is prohibited.

Protected Characteristics

We prohibit discrimination or hateful content based on any of the following:

• Race, color, or ethnicity
• National origin or ancestry
• Religion or religious belief
• Sex or gender
• Gender identity or expression
• Sexual orientation
• Age
• Disability or medical condition
• Veteran or military status

Prohibited Content and Conduct

Members may not:

• List items that promote or glorify hate groups, hateful ideologies, or violence against any protected group.
• Use hateful slurs, dehumanizing language, or symbols associated with hate movements in listings, shop policies, profiles, or messages.
• Establish seller shop policies that discriminate against buyers based on any protected characteristic (e.g., "I do not sell to [group]").
• Refuse to complete a transaction with a buyer based on a protected characteristic.
• Send messages containing slurs, threats, or dehumanizing language targeting another member's protected characteristic.

Historical Collectibles

Model trains and historical collectibles sometimes depict historical periods — including troubling ones. Items are more likely to be permitted when described in an educational or historical context and not presented in a way that promotes or celebrates hate. When in doubt, contact us before listing.

Reporting and Enforcement

How to Report

If another member is harassing or discriminating against you, or if you encounter hateful content on the platform, please contact us at support@buyhappythings.com with a description of the issue and any supporting evidence (screenshots, message history, or a link to the content).

Consequences

Violations of this policy may result in one or more of the following, depending on severity:

• Removal of the offending content or listing.
• A warning issued to the member's account.
• Temporary suspension of the account.
• Permanent account termination.
• Referral to law enforcement where content constitutes a credible threat.

No Retaliation

Members who report violations in good faith are protected from retaliation. Retaliatory action against a reporting member will be treated as a separate policy violation. Filing a false report is itself a violation.
